Here we go again – another day, another scam hitting the logistics scene. According to insiders in the third-party freight world, scammers are using a particular tactic to gain access to accounts of freight brokerages like DAT and Internet Truckstop (ITS).
Their latest trick? Sending what looks like legit emails from DAT or ITS, but they're anything but. Inside, they draft fake reviews to slam brokers. A broker may see something along the lines of "never work with this broker again," "horrible company," or "total time-waster."
But here's the kicker: these emails come with a link supposedly to let you respond to the said review. Once a broker clicks the link to respond, they end up on a fake DAT or ITS page, effectively giving up their credentials to the scammers.
The scammers can then post freight, change and list their own contact info. Unsuspecting carriers may call or email in, to book freight, and scammers get the freight moved for free, or, worst case scenario, end up stealing the freight.
Check the email domain. Real DAT emails come from addresses ending with "@dat.com," and legit Internet Truckstop emails wrap up with "@truckstop.com." If it's anything else, best to steer clear and get in touch with the load board company directly.
Bottom line? Stick to logging into your load board account to deal with reviews. Scammers are getting better at looking legitimate,, and it will take a sharp eye and every bit of vigilance to sniff incoming scams.
